Locals say, “Le Marche is a place that’s undiscovered for Americans. It’s a little gem off the classic tourist route where agriculture, artisanship and local life are in perfect rhythm.”
POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
A land of endless vineyards, green rolling hills, picturesque medieval towns, natural parks and home to the UNESCO Renaissance city of Urbino, Le Marche Italy is an Italian region you'll want to add to your Italy bucket list immediately . . . Home to exquisite food and wine, and some incredibly stunning vistas, don't miss Le Marche!
The magic and inspiration that is Italy in the fall will come to life in the enchanting area of Le Marche. Painting participants will learn a variety of techniques in both water color and/or oil as we explore the infinite possibilities for creative expression.
A serene setting, glorious vistas, delightful folks and a long and interesting history will guide us through our unforgettable adventure as we visit local hill towns ( including a trip to Assisi), forage for truffles, experience the National Truffle Festival . . . we'll also sample incredible wines, enjoy a cooking class, snap numerous reference photos, and form new friendships.
In the Le Marche studio (should you wish to paint) you’ll be encouraged to portray what you love as your instructor guides you and assists you through any “rough spots,” OR you can follow along with step-by-step, if you choose (all levels) . . . paint plein aire or even just take reference photos to use at home in your studio!
Fall in love with Le Marche as we discover why so many artists both past and present return time and again for inspiration and ambience.
This workshop will be taught by award-winning artist, Carmen Gardner.
Our painting days will be combined with other adventures such as:
• Day trips to incredible and historic sites, take photos, explore and shop
• Variety of plein air locations to paint landscapes, villages, and the Tuscan light
• A cooking class of Italian cuisine with a local chef
After excursions we’ll return each evening to relax in our country manor to enjoy a glass of wine and an informal critique of the day’s work or Q & A discussions that include history of the area, art and culture. Then we will move to a local restaurant recapping the day’s adventure with good company. The folks at Italiana Tours are known for hosting firsts class workshops filled with memorable experiences for everyone, painter or non-painter, JOIN US!

"It has been said that art is a tryst, for in the joy of it maker and beholder meet." ~Kojiro Tomita
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for." ~Georgia O'Keeffe
When folks ask me why I paint, I've wondered myself at the answer . . . what should I say? Because it brings me joy? Because I want to share that joy with others? The answer comes
to me every time I pick up a brush. Every time I mix a color or watch pigment mingle on the canvas . . . I realize then, it is about the process.
For me, the deeper meaning in what I paint, lies in my passion to preserve the Maui I discovered when I came "home" in 1981. The greens are greener here, the ocean bluer, the skies full of
drama and light . . . but the true Maui is in the kama'aina, the kupuna who are leaving us. They are the spirit behind the word "aloha," they are teaching me to see. I hope to
continue learning to view Maui not only through the eyes of an artist, but through the aging eyes of her beautiful people, and that I may one day come close to adequately saying with color and shapes
that which I have "no words for."
E komo mai.
I hope you will get a positive impression of my artwork and maybe even take some home with you.
Call me to make an appointment to stop by my Haiku, Maui studio - visitors are always welcome!
With fond aloha,
Carmen

Viewpoints Gallery in Makawao will unveil new works by five Hawaii artists during an exhibition opening this week and continuing through April 19.
Meet the artists - painters Joseph Fletcher, Michael Clements and Carmen Gardner, and sculptors Jazz Glickenhaus and Vince Hogan - during the opening reception at 5 p.m. Friday.
Fletcher "honors the moment and dedicates the craft to recording the living history of Maui in a strong and vibrant manner"; Clements catches "light and color in its constantly changing states"; Gardner's "watercolor celebration of Maui is a luminious tribute to the people, special moments and natural beauty"; Glickenhaus focuses on "abstract and realism, finding a point in the middle where these two styles can come together"; and Hogan, who has been turning Maui hardwoods for decades, creates "spectacular traditional and contemporary pieces," according to a gallery release.
Viewpoints is located at 3620 Baldwin Ave. For details, call the gallery at 572-5979.
